Case Study:

BACKGROUND
Land Food Products Ltd is a Private Limited Company situated on Sutton Fields Industrial Estate, Hull. The company produces garlic bread products, part baked bread and garlic mixes. Land Foods is an appointed supplier to leading food producers and multiple supermarket retailers. They export to Europe and Dubai.
The company are BRC accredited.

Contact with Land Foods was first made by Simon Jakins of FTAS (Humber) in June 2007, when an introductory visit was made. During the visit a need for HACCP training was identified.

THE CHALLENGE
The challenge was to provide an intermediate level HACCP training course for a number of members of the management team to be held at Land Foods prior to their BRC audit. This would need to be partially funded.

THE SOLUTION
A three-day RIPH Certificate in HACCP Principles course was suggested. This would be delivered over a two-week period by Simon Jakins. The course was partially funded through a University of Hull project. Also the company requested a copy of ‘The Guide to Food Manufacturing Management’.

THE FUTURE
As a result of the course the company has carried out a review of their HACCP system. Land Foods are to continue their relationship with FTAS (Humber) and have expressed a wish to carry out a production-based project in the New Year.
